GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

An employee in this class performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled duties associated with the safety, operations, maintenance and security of airport grounds, buildings, operational areas, facilities and equipment. Employees of this class utilize mechanical, custodial and other skills for the day-to-day operation, maintenance and security of the airport. Work involves ensuring that facilities are in operational condition at all times and in compliance with FAA safety regulations. Tact and diplomacy are required in contacts with pilots, corporate and business executives, the general public, employees and local officials and Airport Commission members.  Position is responsible for opening and closing airport at specified times, preparing reports, ordering fuel, assisting with billing.  

An employee is subject to hazards in the work including indoor and outside environmental conditions; significant noise and vibrations; physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current; working in high places, narrow aisles, crawl spaces and areas which could cause claustrophobia; and exposure to high heat, chemicals, oils, fumes, dusts, odors, or poor ventilation. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Airport Director and work is evaluated through conferences, reports, quality of work, observation, visitor reaction, and according to the effectiveness of the airport operations.  Performs related work as required.

  • Operates an aircraft tug to tow and stow aircraft.
  • Collects cash and processes credit cards for fuel and other products and services.
  • Refuels aircraft from the fuel island facility.
  • Maintains fuel farm facility and conducts quality control inspections
  • Receives fuel from transport tanker to fuel storage tank, maintaining associated logs and reports as required.
  • Provides fueling services to various types of aircraft
  • Performs grounds keeping work, which includes mowing, raking, trimming, sweeping or blowing, etc.
  • Operates equipment, including tractors with implements, lawnmowers, chainsaws, weed-eaters, edgers, blowers and other equipment.
  • Assists in customer service for the use of airport facilities.
  • Performs routine inspections of airport facilities to include buildings and grounds, runways and taxiways, airfield lighting and navigational aids systems
  • Makes minor repairs to equipment and facilities, replacing runway light fixtures and bulbs.
  • Performs preventive, emergency equipment maintenance and minor repairs on buildings and equipment; cleaning and painting.
  • Performs minor custodial duties at Airport Business Terminal with Housekeeping duties that may include cleans windows, vacuums, mops, changes light bulbs; keeps facilities neat and clean for airport visitor use.
  • Operates aviation communication radio to both give and receive information.
  • Conducts airport tours.
  • Assists in the administration of Community Service Work Program
  • Assists pilot and their passengers with various needs.
  • Provides excellent customer service to both internal and external customers.
  • May assist with weather observations.
  • Performs a wide variety of construction, maintenance and repair work for airport buildings, hangars, pavement, airfield lighting, security lighting, security fencing, aviation fuels storage and dispensing, as well as other facilities and grounds.
  • Performs daily inspection of all airport safety and operational areas and equipment including runway and taxiways, airfield lighting, parking aprons, hangars, terminal building, fuel storage areas and perimeter fences and gates.
  • Performs duties to monitor and report security regulations, Uniform Fire Code regulations and vehicle operation and parking rules.
  • Performs administrative functions both written on computer for completing and compiling daily and other inspection forms, operational record keeping, aircraft incident reports, emergency medical responses, wildlife hazard incidents (bird or other animal strikes), reports, correspondence, monthly billing information, collecting and the issuance of citations and/or warnings.
  • Performs and assists the Airport Director in all areas of responsibility pertaining to the airport.
  • Receives and assists in resolving complaints or problems occurring on assigned shift.
  • In case of extraordinary and emergency situations, acts as the initial contact for emergency service personnel, assisting with ensuring first aid is administered to any injured persons.  Once the initial emergency situation is under control, confers with Regional Manager for follow-up to ensure life and property are protected.
  • Regular attendance is an essential function of this job to ensure continuity.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS

While the following tasks are necessary for the work of the unit, they are not an essential part of the purpose of this position and may also be performed by other unit members.

Assists in moving and setting up furniture and equipment; unload trucks; moves boxes of paper and supplies.
Replaces light bulbs; changes air filters; checks fuel levels.
Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

High School graduate and with two years’ experience in general maintenance/construction or related field.  Two (2) year degree in Aviation or Business Management preferred with two (2) years of experience and/or training involving building and landscape maintenance; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.  Private or Student Pilot’s license preferred but not required.   

Special Requirements

Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the State of North Carolina.

Employee must be able to attend and pass the National Air Transportation Association (NATA) Professional Line Service Training (PLST) program within one (1) year from date of hire. 

Must have the ability to be contacted and to respond in a timely manner and be willing and able to perform emergency work on an evening, weekend, and 12-hour shift basis.

Ability and willingness to work shift work on a rotating basis, including evenings, weekends and holidays.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Under general supervision of the Animal Control Officer, the purpose of the position is to assist in controlling animals and to protect people and animals in accordance with established ordinances and statutes.  Employees in this classification perform skilled work. Position is responsible for capturing, confining, and euthanizing stray and rabid dogs and other animals; caring for animals in the shelter; and investigating animal complaints. Performs related work as required.

  • This work involves patrolling the county to enforce animal control ordinances and related laws, rules and regulations.  Workers carry out daily assignments, follow through on matters and use independent judgment and training to take appropriate actions to deal with animal situations.
  • Enforces county and state animal regulations including but not limited to cruelty to animals, dangerous/vicious animals and animal bites, including dogs, cats, livestock and fowl.
  • Patrols assigned county areas, contains and picks-up stray, sick/injured feral and/or unwanted and captured domestic animals, transporting them to appropriate destinations (vet, shelter, etc.).
  • Performs emergency animal rescue service, emergency night call service and animal first aid when required.
  • Maintains required telecommunications contact.
  • Sets traps to capture evasive domestic animals.
  • Educates the public on proper animal care, wildlife problems and animal control regulations.
  • Arbitrates disputes if possible. Issues warnings, citations and arrest warrants when necessary.  Appears for scheduled court dates and testifies regarding civil infractions, custody hearings and cruelty charges.  Serves and responds to court and Animal Control Board summonses as necessary and represents County at court and Animal Control Board Hearings.  Coordinates efforts with other community professionals such as police officer, court officials and veterinarians.
  • Prepares and maintains necessary reports and records.
  • Tranquilizes dangerous/vicious animals in a safe humane manner as authorized by supervisor.
  • Euthanizes dangerous/vicious animals in a safe humane manner as authorized by supervisor.
  • Responds to and investigates complaints from citizens concerning domestic animals.
  • Feeds and cares for dogs and cats; euthanizes rabid and undesirable dogs and cats; prepares animals for submission to state lab for determination of rabies.
  • This position may, preferably on a rotation basis, but because the staff is small, may be assigned to feed and care (clean the pens) for the dogs and cats in the shelter on repetitive weekends (Saturday and Sunday) twice a day.
  • Assists in investigating complaints about stray or rabid dogs; Investigates animal cruelty complaints related to domestic and farm animals; Investigates allegations of dangerous dogs; uses suitable techniques and equipment to capture and confine dogs; assists in investigating reports of dog and other animal bites.  Prepares written investigative reports that may be introduced as legal court evidence.
  • Assists in enforcement of policies related to vaccination of animals; post notices and participates in vaccination clinics.
  • Picks up stray or unwanted animals; offers animals for adoption.
  • Assists in the removal and disposal of animal carcasses at Animal Shelter only.
  • Maintains cleanliness of Animal Shelter.
  • Assist in management of Animal Shelter.
  • Deal courteously with the public. Assist callers with information regarding situations such as nuisance or trapped animals and answers questions about animal control polices and laws.
  • Operate vehicle safely.  Performs minor maintenance on catch poles, traps, cages, and kennels; may perform minor maintenance on animal control service vehicles.
  • Serves as an Animal Cruelty Investigator to determine if animals are being neglected or abused.  May be required to testify for cases involving animal cruelty or dangerous dogs when court action is required.
  • This position requires the employee to have access to a county cell phone and respond to dispatched calls in priority order and determine appropriate action.
  • Employee is subject to work beyond normal scheduled hours, weekends and holidays.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED; supplemented by previous experience working with animals or training; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Demonstrated animal health and wellbeing knowledge, skills and abilities to include:  care of wild and domestic animals, knowledge of animal diseases, skill in performing euthanasia, ability to determine breeds and species, sex and age.

  • Ability to recognize signs of animal neglect, abuse and cruelty.
  • Knowledge of law enforcement techniques, principles and practices. 
  • Knowledge of local and state animal laws and court procedures.
  • Knowledge in euthanasia methods and techniques, skill in animal capture and restraint methods and the ability to interpret animal body language.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other community professionals and the public.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must successfully complete the North Carolina Concealed Handgun Carry Course and be permitted to carry a handgun within one year of employment.
  • Must successfully attend and complete at least six (6) hours of training per year related to investigating complaints for care and treatment of animals.
  • Must successfully complete a Euthanasia class and become certified.
  • Must attend N.A.C.H.O. (National Animal Control Humane Officer) Module A within 6 months of employment.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the State of North Carolina. Must maintain a valid North Carolina driver’s license throughout employment and must comply with any and all County vehicle policies.
  • Obtain the necessary preventive medical shots for protection against rabies, etc. This would include Rabies pre-exposure, TD dap every 10 years unless an exposure, flu shot yearly, Hep B and Hep A.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Under the supervision of the Director, the Museum STEM Educator will support in any aspect of museum operations as required, such as preparation of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) education program development/facilitation, exhibit development, education collections cataloging, and school and group tours. Additionally, preparation of objects for storage and research may be required. This position will be 24 hours per week, Wednesday-Saturday, with flexibility.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS/COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS

Associate, Undergraduate, or Master’s Degree in broad-field science, biology, chemistry, physics, earth science, environmental science, technology/engineering, museum studies, education, related fields, or equivalent. Comfort with teaching interdisciplinary history and science content.

Minimum of one year experience developing and delivering programs in museums or other educational venues. Ability to teach inquiry- and object-based lessons that are interactive and developmentally appropriate for a diverse range of students, including PreK-12 students and students with different learning needs and varying museum experiences. Experience working with teachers and school administration to develop and facilitate collaborative programming.Willingness to problem-solve and work flexibly in planning, scheduling, and implementing programs.

The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic team member with strong written and verbal communication skills who is able to work collaboratively across departments and with outside contacts.

Must have demonstrated skills in prioritizing, organizing projects, and multi-tasking.

Must exhibit a mature, flexible, and professional demeanor both in presentation and actions.

Ability to work weekends, holidays, and evenings is necessary.

Bilingual proficiency a plus, Spanish preferred.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Under general supervision, the solid waste enforcement officer performs skilled work in the investigation and enforcement of ordinances related to the prevention of illegal and improper disposal of trash within Duplin County.  Work includes performing investigative work of illegal disposal of trash and enforcing corrective measures, including but not limited to citations and cleanup.   Employee must exercise considerable independent judgment in all phases of work and be extremely knowledgeable in the laws and regulations of the county’s solid waste ordinance.  Employee should also use considerable tack, courtesy and firmness when in contact with the public.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Receives complaints concerning illegal or improper disposal of trash within the county.  Investigates reports of dumping and dumping areas to determine compliance that is applicable to the solid waste ordinance.  Works with other county offices – Police Department, Sheriff’s Department, Tax Office, Fire Marshall’s Office and others – to assist in the location of parties responsible.
  • Works closely with the Fire Marshall’s office, Environmental Health and any state agencies to investigate illegal burning of trash, hazardous materials and non-permitted dump sites.  Issues warnings or citations as pertains to county ordinance.
  • Enforces correction of solid waste ordinance violations by issuing notices of violation and citations requesting corrective action.  If necessary, pursues a warrant for responsible parties to appear in court.  Will appear in court to testify as needed.
  • Maintains records concerning work activities, citations, warnings and any other documents pertaining to illegal and improper dumping.
  • Patrols areas in the county for illegal or improper dumping, hauling and neglect of property.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

The purpose of this position is to ensure that all children receive necessary and needed support from non-custodial parents by providing child support services to public assistance and non-public assistance parents in the state of   North Carolina. This position involves location of non-custodial parents, enforcement of support, modifications and review and adjustments of child support obligations. Employees perform other duties as assigned.

  • Requires knowledge of the Child Support Enforcement Program, laws governing child support, policies and procedures as defined by Agency, State and Federal regulations.
  • Reviews all legal documents and paperwork received to determine if they are completed accurately.
  • Prepares, organizes and enforces Child Support orders as defined by state and federal law to public assistance and non-public assistance custodial parents.
  • Interviews custodial and non-custodial parents to enforce child and medical support orders. Reviews and adjusts the support orders.
  • Monitors cases for delinquency.
  • Provides in-depth investigations and prepares cases for court to enforce child support orders. Prepares court dockets, case summaries and case records to assist the Attorney in the courtroom in presenting and reviewing cases.
  • Advises the court (through the attorney) of variables affecting cases.
  • Has an independent role in presenting cases (with the attorney) in the courtroom to include testifying as needed.
  • Types court orders and obtains appropriate approval and signatures on the legal documents.
  • Files orders with the Clerk of Court and forwards copies to the appropriate parties.
  • Prepares necessary forms and forwards to employers, Clerk of Court and non-custodial parents to verify employment and withhold wages for child support payments and inclusion of dependent children to health insurance.
  • Creates and maintains the financial records of the court orders for charging distribution and adjustments and types case summaries in the Automated Collections and Tracking System (ACTS).
  • Determines the most appropriate course of action to take to complete the necessary case actions needed within the federal and state mandated time frames.
  • Reviews cases every (3) years as mandated by federal and state laws.
  • Reports delinquencies to the credit bureaus and refers cases for tax interception.
  • Completes monthly reports and daily worklists to maintain accuracy of cases.
  • Attends staff meetings and trainings as needed.
  • Works at disaster shelters as deemed necessary.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assists other unit workers when time permits. Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Notarizes documents for other workers.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

A four year degree and six months experience in eligibility, investigative, judiciary, or legal work that provides knowledge, skills and abilities needed to perform the work; or an associate’s degree in business administration, human resources, law enforcement or closely related degree and two years of experience in eligibility, investigative, judiciary, or legal work that provides knowledge, skills and abilities needed to perform the work; or graduation from high school and three years of experience in eligibility, investigative, judiciary, or legal work that provides knowledge, skills and abilities needed to perform the work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Thorough knowledge of the Child Support Enforcement Program and applicable legal procedures; considerable ability to interview clients, absent parents and related sources, and to investigate cases; considerable ability to organize, analyze, and summarize case information; basic math skills; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients and absent parents, location resources, offices of the Clerk of Court, Magistrates, District Attorney, Sheriff, other court officials, and private attorneys.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

The purpose of the position is to provide engineering and technical support, waste management and engineering assistance for training, planning, design, and construction of animal waste management systems and other Best Management Practices. Employees in this classification perform technical support and engineering work. Position is responsible for providing soil and water conservation planning and assisting landowners/users in applying and maintaining conservation measures. Performs related work as required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Maintain 0200 animal waste certification paperwork as needed to meet State regulations. Prepare and certify lagoon closure plans for state grants. Provide waste management assistance to animal producers; Prepare comprehensive nutrient management plans (CNMP), waste utilization plans, calculate wettable acres for irrigation plans, computer generated irrigation maps and site layout. Perform and certify construction checks of lagoons, ponds, grassed waterways, wells, fences, cattle waterers, poultry litter storage sheds, incinerators, and similar structures to assure practices meet NRCS standards. Prepare drainage tile plans. Provide Technical Assistance on Designing Farm Roads and Culverts to meet NRCS standards and specifications. Plan and present programs for schools, Prepare VAD (Voluntary Ag District) maps for landowners and agency personnel through ArcGIS. Assist NRCS personnel with USDA Programs. Administer the NC Agricultural Cost Share Programs. Attend meetings and workshops as needed to stay abreast of current rules and regulations. Maintain records of complaints and aid the (BMAP) Beaver Management Assistance Program. Assist in the maintenance of the Limestone and Muddy Creek Watershed Lateral Project by preparing maintenance reports, annual inspections and follow-up maintenance. Perform inspections on various Stream Debris Removal Projects.

Marginal Functions

Job Requirements and Qualifications

Education & Experience: An Associate’s Degree in Conservation, Forestry, Soil Science,
Environmental Education, Biology, Waste Management, Ag Science, Civil Engineering or other related field supplemented by one (1) or two (2) years previous experience and/or training or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Certifications: Nutrient Management Certification, Ag- Pest Plant Pesticide License. Skills and Abilities: Computer skills and the ability to use Geographical Information Systems (ArcGIS); Ability to use Survey Equipment such as Total Station and laser levels as needed for Conservation Surveys. Ability to operate (launch, load and perform minor maintenance) on multiple amphibious vehicles and watercraft and All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV), Tractors, Kayaks and Canoes.  Special Requirements: Federal Background checks are required of the position as it relates to Homeland Security and the use of federal computer system. The primary purpose of this position is to provide nursing services in the clinic setting. 98% Clinic

· Participates in direct patient care of clients receiving services in the Health Department clinic including adult health services, child health services, STD services, immunizations, communicable diseases, and tuberculosis control.

· Obtains history and assessment of Adult Health, Maternal Health, Family Planning, and Child Health patients for medical providers.

· Maintains knowledge of immunizations, physical assessment, STD treatments, communicable diseases, TB skin testing and treatment.

· Provides and documents appropriate family planning services to include dispensing of multiple birth control methods.

· Provides pregnancy test counseling and documentation.

· Maintains knowledge of HIV control measures to prevent spread of HIV within the community.

· Stays informed of current trends in public health by attending workshops and conferences.

· Dispenses medications from pharmacy according to current pharmacy policies and procedures adhering to Title X and 340 B Guidelines.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Under general supervision of the Communications Supervisors, the purpose of the position is to receive emergency calls from citizens and to dispatch appropriate units for fire, rescue, local law enforcement agencies, and Duplin County Sheriff’s Office based on operating guidelines.  Employees in the classification perform skilled communications work.  Position is responsible for operating communications equipment; receiving calls and dispatching assistance; monitoring and responding to radio traffic; entering all complaints and dispositions into the computer system; and maintaining logs and records of communications activities.  Performs related work as requested.

Answers incoming emergency telephone calls and requests appropriate information.

Dispatches call to appropriate agencies based on determination made from information received and standard operating guidelines.

Monitors radio traffic for requests for assistance from responders and to document pertinent times of units responding.

Maintains call logs and records of radio traffic requesting assistance. Prepares criminal history requests for appropriate individuals.

Assigns and tracks incident numbers for fire and EMS. Transmits and receives information via DCI as needed for related agencies.

Appropriately files, retrieves, enters, modifies, clears, and cancels DCI records and documentation for law enforcement agencies with a valid service agreement. Maintain records to assist with confirming entries and computerized hits received for other agency entries with a valid DCI service agreement. Operates a computer terminal connected to a network which includes the Division of Criminal Information (DCI), the National Crime Information Center, and a variety of other local and state databases to retrieve and submit information.  Corresponds with local police departments, Duplin County Sheriff’s Office, and other law enforcement agencies or public service jurisdictions through this system; processes and maintains records of information obtained.  Works with a variety of law enforcement agencies performing criminal history checks and providing driving histories, and vehicle registration information. Utilizes computerized data entry equipment and various windows based software programs. Relays problems and/or complaints to the Supervisor. Answers non-emergency calls for the Sheriff’s Office and the Water Department after regular business hours and when calls are transferred for relay purposes. Assists other counties with misrouted emergency calls.

Requests mutual aid from other county agencies as requested or needed based on standard operating guidelines.

Required to attend appropriate training classes deemed necessary for proficiencies in job performance. Required to work when notified and requested for emergency situations (employee shortages, inclement weather.)Requests Medical Examiners as needed or requested.

Utilizes schedules to make contact with appropriate agent/officer and to serve as the liaison to provide them information for the following agencies:   Mental Health Commitment Officers; Magistrates; Social Services; Department of Transportation, Narcotics; Detectives; East Pointe; Probation; Animal Control; Public School Bus; Fire Marshal; Forestry Service; Court Dates; and Emergency Management.

Advise officers of preplanned residential checks to be performed. Broadcast Weather Alerts and inclement weather conditions.

Broadcast road closing information, BOLO’s, weather alerts, fire ratings and conditions. Logs information received from Repossession Companies on repossessed vehicles. Contact Funeral Homes, according to rotation schedule, for transports of DOA.

Assist Solid Waste Officer by documenting complaints regarding illegal dumping.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS

While the following tasks are necessary for the work of the unit, they are not an essential part of the purpose of this position and may also be performed by other unit members. Prepares various reports. Testing Satellite Phone as required by state regulation. Indexes CAD data and files.

Notifies appropriate agencies of hazardous road conditions. Assist in training new Telecommunicators. Makes service requests for needed repairs with communications equipment. Performs related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma or GED; 2 years of computerized data entry experience or secretarial/clerical work, fluent typing skills; and knowledge of windows based operating computer systems.  Must have excellent communications skills:  clear speaking voice and excellent hearing.  Must be able to obtain Telecommunicator Certification within 1 year.   Knowledge of the geographical layout and county road name system for Duplin County is preferable.

Possession of valid drivers’ license issued by the State of North Carolina. DCI Certifications in Modules 1-3 must be maintained throughout employment. Must be able to obtain to obtain DCI Certification for Protective Orders as deemed necessary. GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

This is skilled work in the operation and maintenance of solid waste collection equipment.  Responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of assigned equipment is a predominant task.  Under general supervision of either the Director or Landfill Supervisor, the purpose of the position is to operate medium and heavy motorized equipment.  Position is responsible for operating front-end loaders, backhoes, bobcats, refuse removal equipment, bailer and forklift in landfill and recycling operations.  Manual work and heavy lifting may also be performed as necessary.  Experience in the operation and servicing of heavy equipment is also preferred.   Performs related work as required.

Operates various solid waste collection, disposal and/or recycling equipment as needed. Maneuvers heavy equipment into loading and/or unloading positions. Operates equipment on landfill grounds, maintaining proper awareness of one’s surroundings. Weighs trailer(s) after they are loaded to make sure they are within weight limits, rolls tarps and places trailer(s) in staging areas for long haul drivers. Conducts visual and random inspections of MSW and C&D at transfer station. Operates recycling equipment to prepare recyclable materials for market; directs haulers to proper storage area for recyclables; insures quality of recyclable materials by inspecting materials and removing unacceptable items; loads trucks of baled materials for market. Performs routine servicing and maintenance of equipment used in carrying out assignments, including such tasks as fueling equipment, tire maintenance including tire changes and/or assisting as needed, and cleaning equipment exterior and interior. Performs required basic daily pre-use equipment inspections. Notifies Duplin County garage of any equipment issues. Follow Safety rules. Report unsafe working conditions, accidents and injuries to supervisor. Monitors solid waste while moving trash to identify and report any hazardous materials.  Basic hazardous materials identification and handling. Maintains clean and safe working environment in and around recycling warehouse, transfer station, metal pile and other areas as assigned at landfill..

The duties of the equipment operator will vary by job, customer needs, weather conditions and equipment operated. The equipment operator must be able to all types of related heavy equipment (i.e. bulldozer, backhoe, front end loader, grader, fork lift, etc…)  proficiently and safely at all times and in all types of conditions. 

When operating equipment the equipment operator must be able to climb in and out of the piece of equipment safely.  To climb into the equipment the operator uses both hands to grab hold of two cab mounted hand grips and raising one foot approximately thirty inches (from the ground) onto a step uses arm and leg power to lift his/her body up  to the tread of the step.  This process is repeated until the operator is in the cab. To exit from the equipment the operator uses both hands to grab hold of two cab mounted hand grips and backs down one foot at a time onto a step below using arm and leg power to lower his/her body to the tread of the step below.  This process is repeated until the operator is on ground level.  The operation of the equipment requires the use of both hands and arms for steering and moving levers and legs to operate foot controls and pedals.  These activities are repeated throughout a work day.

Because of liability issues the equipment operator cannot be taking medications that may impair the operator’s ability to safely operate the equipment.

While the following tasks are necessary for the work of the unit, they are not an essential part of the purpose of this position and may also be performed by other unit members.

May be requested to train new employees. Overtime may be required and during a disaster or emergency situation, Equipment Operators may be required to work.  Performs related duties as assigned.

                                                               MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED preferred; supplemented by three (3) to five (5) years previous experience and/or training that includes the operation of heavy equipment, and experience in refuse collection work; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Educational background sufficient to understand oral and written work assignments.
